belanga @ empire

i never really wanted to try belanga. i think i walked pass it more than a couple of times in midvalley, but maybe the name never striked me as intersting, or i've never really heard people rave about the food? so it never crossed my mind to try this place. one of my friends wanted to try it for lunch, so went along to check out the food there.

i wasn't impressed with the cake selection displayed. the 7 layer-ed colored cake looked dry and dense. you could tell just by looking at it that it was not good cake. so my advice would be to not order the cakes there. but i wasn't there for the cakes.

so tried this thing called nasi tumpang which sounded rather interesting. you get to choose either the fish or the prawn ones, and naturally being a fish lover, i tried the fish. its supposedly a kelantanse cuisine. and its something like rice cakes/ketupat/the satay rice thingies with fish floss. that is the most apt description i can come up with. its something different and i really liked it, especially the spicy fish floss. i would definitely come back for this. 6.90 for this, totally worth it. perhaps i will try the prawn one next time.

portions a little small though for lunch so need to order something in addition to this. or maybe i just have a big appetite who knows. had the curry noodles as well, but i thought it was just ordinary and nothing to brag about. nothing special and i probs won't order this again. maybe next time i will go fro the moer traditional kind of kelantanese food they serve, since they pride themselves on that. maybe the nasi dagang next time.

best rojak @ss15

i've known this rojak place every since i was a little kid and this is the only rojak i eat to date. i do not eat, i mean i've tried but they've all ended up being bad experiences for me, so i no longer buy rojak elsewhere anymore. i solely am loyal to this rojak place in ss15. ive seen it grow, from a mere lorry truck to having its own stand now, but you still see the signature truck parked behind their stand. its just something, call it magic, but they serve up, to me, the best rojak there is.

depending on your luck, there may be a que. i think there was only once that i went that there was no que. thing is the que in front is normally about 10 people, but each of them buy like 5-10 packets, some even 15 so it takes pretty long to get to your turn. its like u wait so long, u must buy as many pacckets as you can. this rojak is the malay kind of rojak so it is with shredded cucumber, mengkuang, some fried stuffs, absolutely yummy keropok and topped with a peanut sauce. they have a very organized system in play, with one uncle shredding the cucumbers whilst packing the peanut sauce whereas the other packing the rojak into individual packets to order.

they have pure rojak, or u can have eggs and sotong with the rojak. i normally haev the sotong and egg ones but that is just cuz im a fan of sotong. the sotong is not the star, its the rojak itself, so u could do without the sotong.
its absolutely food from heaven, i must say. its the sauce and the fried stuffs that comes together with the rojak that is the star of the dish. every bite is heavenly. this really is a 10 out of 10 dish. its like if they ever stopped selling their superstar dish, id probably not eat rojak anymore in my life. no joke. this is how good it is. i swear they are as old as me and im in my twenties.

there is a cendol store right next to the rojak stall, so u could have a cup of cendol whilst waiting under the hot blazing sun, just to cool you down.
