sweet hut @ss2

having heard about this new dessert place, it was a must try for me. and since i'm a choco molten lava lover, when i saw this on their menu, it was an absolute i'm going to order this for me-choco maquise cake. it was baked to perfection, with the oozing chocolate when you cut right through the cake. the chocolate was not bad, but the ice-cream was terrible. the ice-cream was too icey, making it a little weird. overall, not bad, but, i still prefer chillis version of molten lava cake, i have yet to find a better version. and trust me, i've laboured and sacrificed alot in my attempt to find the best choco molten lava cake. alot of pounds gained, and i certainly do not mean the sterling pound.

i quite liked their menu, lots of choices, but, was disappointed bcuz when it came to ordering, they told us that a couple of best sellers were not available. their best sellers comprises of course their chocolate marquis cake and some kind of coconut pudding which was not available. they also have durian sago and things like that. here's a little insight into their menu. just click.

it was an okay dessert. i wasn't disappointed by the cake, just the ice cream. but, its not some place i'd go back to again. i'd much rather head to kei dak sek for desserts if i happened to be in that area.

the hot choco liquid oozing out

just look at that choco-baked to perfection

upstairs cafe @ ss 12 part 2

decided to stop by upstairs for some cakes today. decided to try something differnt, hence did not go for the oh-so-yummy-gooey-brown-ees. instead, today, decided to try out their other signature-redvelvet. my 2nd time here for their desserts.

today. tried the red velvet. the cake was moist, very in fact. the frosting, not overly sweet, but i think they added a little lemon to give it a little tang. the cupcake itself was good, but i would have preferred better frosting to go with it. i feel like once you've had uk's hummingbird frosting, everything else just pales in comparison. 5 bucks for this cupcake. its not wow, but its definitely one of the better cupcakes i have had in malaysia.

chocolate torte cake. 5.90, this was a warm very moist chocolate cake minus the gooey centre of a choco molten cake. the cake was very well baked, punch of chocolate there. its not a special kind of cake, but its a good chocolate cake.

mint brownies-i'm a fan of mint chocolate-like i love after 8s and all but this was just a tad bit too minty for me. the brownees, nothing special. as in i prefer the ordinary brownies because of the gooeyness that made it special. but this one, was kind of ordinary and too minty. didn't like this that much. unless you are seriuosly s full fledge mint fan, u might not like this as well.

i wasn't as impressed as my first visit but i still stand by the best brownies being here=]

chillis @ empire

chillis.decided to come here for lunch for some comfort food. we ordered the trio appetizer which had chicken fingers, buffalo wings and these mexican kind of rolls. it was really bad on all kinds of levels. the wings hardly had any meat on them. there was too much batter on the chicken fingers. the only decent thing were probably the rolls. the standard has dropped so so much since i was in my teens. not something i'd oreder again unless i have one of my muffin days.

let me tell you my muffin story. i don't like muffins. i know i don't like muffins. but sometimes when i pass by say starbucks or any kind of shop that sells muffins, i'm just so tempted to buy muffins, just cuz they are so pretty-looking. and when i take a bite, it reminds me all over again why i don't like muffins. i know right, i'm a tad bit weird.

pure nachos were so-so. they weren't wow like last time, they were just okay. this, u had to eat them hot. when i was younger they used to come with guacamole, but now, you had to order the guacamole separately. i was abit disappointed by that. the nachos, you had to eat them hot. once cooled down, yep, not good at all.

came with my cousin and we decided that chillis food-super cannot make it. however, their dessert on the other hand was amaze-balls. choco lava cake with vanilla ice-cream, caramel sauce and a chocotop. this was amazing. i had like 2, 2 days consecutively. i didn't like the choco top much and the vanilla ice-cream was not of the greatest quality, but, you just needed that vanilla ice-cream there to cut through the sweetness of the caramel sauce and the molten cake. the choco molten cake was so good. like it was just the whole thing that was super good. the combination of hot and cold. the best chocolate lava cake i have had so far, and trust me i was once on a choco-lava cake eating spree and i've tried really bad ones and also mediocore ones. this is by far the best.

tong pak fu

tong pak fu, well the ones i normally visit is the one in empire, midvalley, ss15 and sunway pyramid. they do have plentiful of outlets though. they take pride in their tracka durian-snow-ice and d24 durian snow-ice, many durian lovers flock over to tongpakfu for their durian desserts. i've tried their tracka durian ice before, but its not my fav. i still prefer chilled real genuine durains, anytime. it tasted slightly to mild down and hence slightly artificial for me.

so i normally order the black sesame ice instead. if you don't know i'm an avid goma-adzuki beans fan. like avid. the topping are normally jelly but i always chnge them to all red-beans. i just feel like it goes better. the black sesame flavour is really there. this is my usual whenever i visit tongpakfu. and it is a musttry for all black sesame fans out there. this tops the durian series, any day. 8.90 for a regular serving.

decided to be adventurous one of the times and tried the soya ice and the mango in milk with sago. i'm not a fan of sago so the mango thing was not my thing. i love the soya ice series in snowflake so i was looking forward to this as well. but boy was i disappointed. it was really extremely bad. i literally took only a few spoonfuls and left it to melt away-yes it was that bad. it was quite tasteless.

being a black sesame fan, i ordered the black sesame tangyuens, coated in black sesame. to my disappointment, there was too little black sesame filling inside. priced at 4.90, super not worth it. the first batch that came was super undercook and i had to request for another one. was not impressed at all. and the servers there could not understand my english, nor mandarin either. i'm always not a fan of service industries employing people who can't even communicate in the same language. i mean waht kind of service industry would that be then, right. they have the peanut filling one as well, same price. initially, well according to the very misleading brochure, i thought i'd be getting 3 black sesame tangyuens and 3 peanut tangyuens for 5 bucks. but i was wrong. super misleading menu.

choco lava cake (which took forever). i am in love with choco lava cakes. the hot-cold-combo, to me is just perfect. okay what i liked about this was the black sesame tuille that came with the dessert. what i didn't like about it was the cake. i felt it was slightly burnt because the cake was very bitter. it was baked to perfection, yes with a very gooey consistency in the centre but the taste was off. i've had better.

well. i'm still a tongpakfu lover, but, just for the black sesame ice and nothing else.

yut kee kopitiam @jalan dang wangi

everyone's heard of the super famous yut kee kopitiam. if you have not, you've really not lived. my family's been a loyal customer of yut kee, ever since i can remember. we love, well i love their butter cakes. we buy them by the boxes, in bulk, and they're so addictive, i could have slice after slice. once you go yutkee, you'll never go back. any other butter cake would suck, my word.
be prepared to share a table here because its packed fill with people. i mean it is afterall a kopitiam, right=]
black coffee and soft boilt eggs. costing rm 2.90, i mean despite being such a loyal fan of yutkee, i'm not going to say they serve better kampung eggs haha. that would just sound too ridiculous. thing is i can't really tell good coffee from bad coffee so i can't really comment on the coffee either.

the kaya swiss roll was too dry for my liking. it was very densed and would have been better if it were lighter and fluffier. i thought they were a bit too stingy with their kaya filling as well. however, yutkee is quite famous for their kaya swiss rolls. i mean its like their 2nd big thing next to their butter cakes. you would see this oalmost every table, without a doubt.

next was the hainanese lum mee. different from the typical lum mees, it is white in colour. the serving was generous, packed filled with prawns.the sauce was flavoursome. definitely one of their signatures and definitely worth a try. rm 7.50.

and the highlight of the day, the butter cake. it was like fireworks in my mouth. it was so good, so yummy. the butter aroma, the crust, the butter taste, perfect. it was perfection on a plate. its a must try for anyone and everyone. one slice only costs rm 1.10. try this. its a must.

so yes, if you do happen to be wandering around kl, thinking of a good place for breakfast, wanting to experience the great kuala lumpur atmosphere, be sure to drop by yutkee.
