i was feeling porridge, and have heard of honkee porridge. famous for their branch in petaling street, they've been recruited to be a part of the great streetfoods in kl combo in the lot 10 food court. this place apparently built up great rapport since the 1940s so i was pretty hyped up to try their porridges. moreover thiers is of a smooth consistency, not the grainy teochew porridge kind which ain't my thing. they have quite a number of outlets now, in ss15, and lot 10, ss2, taipan.
their signature is of course their frog legs porridge and raw fish porridge and also pork intestine porridge. i'm not particularly adventurous so i don't eat frogs. pork intestines are also not my thing. like i love pork intestine soup, but i dont eat the intestines, i just drink the soup. so i settled for the sliced raw fish porridge. priced at 6.80, well its cheaper than the porridge you get at canton-i i must say. the porrideg was piping hot, and when you dip the thiny sliced fish into the porridge, it semi cooks it. i loved the generous helpings of ginger and the consistensy of the porridge. but i did not like the sliced fish. they had some sinue, it was like some smi bone in between the meat of the fish. so eating the fish wasn't very pleasant for me. poridge was good but not the fish, so maybe next time i will go for the meatball porridge instead.
quite a good place to have porridge if u r a porridge person. i think its difficult to get not-overpriced-porridge these days. i mean 12 bucks for a bowl of porridge is just plain ridiculous. i mean dude its just rice and water, how much do you wana rrip me off for that. overall pretty good. but now, with competition coming from feng yi zhuk sek, they need to buck up man. not my fav porridge joint, but not bad. i mean they must be famous for something. cuz there's pride in their name.
